OBRA DO DIA
José Rosinhas
Rosinhas - 2005
Madeira, vidro, fotografias - 47cm x 47cm cada

The word Rosinhas, belongs to my name—in Portuguese it’s a word without a specific gender, could be a woman’s or a man’s name. Why do we have to be identified by words that automatically define our gender?

In my work there are two photos, both of them are portraits of me, ways that people looked at me, re-appropriations of the “I”, one of them I was a child and another was took in 2002. But both of them I wasn’t a “straight boy/man” I was assuming another character, another gender? My work it’s always questioning the boundaries between genders and reworked those concepts.
